Biodynamic Farming

Why It Matters

agriculture

28% Employment

Agriculture provides livelihoods for a significant portion of the population.

pin_drop

4% Arable Land

Egypt's limited fertile land necessitates highly sustainable practices.

warning

Soil Depletion

Conventional farming severely degrades soil health over time.

eco

Environmental Benefits

Organic methods restore biodiversity, improve water retention, and sequester carbon.

trending_up

<2% Current Share

Massive opportunity for mainstreaming organic practices nationwide.

format_quote

"SEKEM and HU developed the agriculture model of the future, which is being disseminated in Egypt."

Our Goal 2027

Our Approach

science

Biological Pest Control

Heliopolis University (HU) leads research in biological pest control, reducing reliance on chemical pesticides and promoting natural ecosystem balance.

handshake

Strategic Partnerships

Cooperation with Demeter and Organic Egypt, alongside nationwide work through EBDA (Egyptian Biodynamic Association) to establish robust standards.

2024

Compost used at SEKEM farms slightly decreased compared to the previous year — driven by reduced application rates on previously reclaimed land at the Wahat farm where soil fertility has improved over time, and by increased cultivation of leguminous crops (beans, alfalfa/clover) whose natural nitrogen fixation reduces supplemental compost need.
